NLP Academy of Behavioral Technology Meetings
October 7–9, 2005

Keeping with its tradition of bringing the NLP Affiliated World Community together for special events that contribute and create synergy within the field of NLP, NLP University is sponsoring a series of Academy of Behavioral Technology meetings this Fall. Building upon the NLP Community Leadership Project in 1997 and the NLP Millennium Project in 2000 the purpose of these meetings is to take a next step in the mission to “create a world to which people want to belong.”

Thought Leadership and Innovation

Open to certified NLP trainers, consultants, sponsors and institute owners, the goal of this conference is to help create the future by supporting emerging ideas. A major theme for the event is thought leadership and innovation. Thought leadership involves developing something new that brings values to customers and clients.

Some of the areas of thought leadership to be explored during the meetings include:

• New developments in NLP
• Standards for certification
• Distance learning
• Building credibility for NLP as a field (e.g., academic accreditation)
• Intellectual property issues

We encourage all participants to come with your own project to share and work on. The conference is designed provide many opportunities for cross fertilization and the sharing of ideas and “best practices.” Participants will be learning and applying the exciting new principles and methods of “generative collaboration.”

Generative Collaboration

Basic collaboration involves a group of individuals working together to reach a specific objective. Basic collaboration requires that people have a certain degree of rapport with one another, communicate effectively and each perform the task required of them in coordination with other partners or group members.

Generative collaboration involves people working together to create or generate something new, surprising and beyond the capacities of any of the group members individually. Through generative collaboration, individuals are able to utilize their abilities to the fullest and discover and apply resources that they did not yet realize that they had. They draw new ideas and resources out of each other. Thus, the performance or output of the group as a whole is much greater than it would be if the individuals were working by themselves. It requires that the group members share abilities such as vision, multiple perspectives and the capacity to create a “relational field.” This involves the ability of group members to support each other as mentors, sponsors and “awakeners.”

Generative collaboration frequently results in the development of a “group mind” or “swarm intelligence” in which the knowledge and know how of individuals combine to produce a larger collective intelligence and creativity that is impossible without the presence of the other partners or group members. It allows people to discover higher knowledge that they weren’t aware of before the proper opportunity and context to bring it out.

One application of generative collaboration involves bringing everyone’s best thinking to your idea or project, so that you receive support from your peers to develop your own contribution.

As an illustration, in basic collaboration, a group of six or seven people would get together, arrive at a consensus regarding a particular project and work together to achieve that project; thus producing one project as a result of their interaction. Applying the principles and formats of generative collaboration, the group of six or seven would produce at least six or seven projects, plus several possible synergies between some of those projects.

A good metaphor for understanding the dynamic of generative collaboration is the interplay of bubbles. In this analogy, a bubble would represent a particular vision or idea. In basic collaboration, all of the partners or team members work together to create one bubble. Generative collaboration would involve each of the group members creating his or her own bubble and then noticing how that bubble joined together with the bubbles formed by the other group members.

Some of new tools participants will explore and apply include:

• Collaboration Catalysts
• Resource Mining
• Generative Brainstorming
• Success Factor Peer Audit
• Dream Guardians Format

NLP Affiliated World Community Special Event
October 10 and 11, 2005

This special event is open to the greater NLP World Community and people at all levels of involvement in NLP. The purpose of this two-day meeting is to extend the work and ideas explored during the previous session into the world community at large. Participants will interact together to define and plan community oriented projects. Our goals are to inspire and promote affiliation, distance learning and information sharing for the betterment of our field and our world.

Modeling Community and Affiliation

A key part of this program will be to apply the process of Success Factor Modeling to help create successful communities and affiliations. Participants will practice establishing a “winning culture,” based on win-win principles of interaction.

We will present examples of successful and prosperous communities that we have modeled, including our own affiliation program “Dilts/NLPU Distance Learning Certifications.” Participants will also be modeling their own personal reference experiences and models of effective community, affiliation and partnering.

Topics to be covered include:

• Dynamic teaming
• Harnessing swarm intelligence
• Skillful community building
• Servant leadership
• Valuing leveraging diversity by recognizing the contributions of different cultures

A special emphasis will be placed on critical success factors for non-profit organizations.

Skillful Generosity

NLP has often been heralded as a powerful technology for achievement and success. From the Systemic NLP perspective, you are successful in the areas of your life in which you have the inner experience of feeling both grateful and generous. Successful people are grateful for what they have and, at the same time, are able to generously share with others and give something back.

Skillful generosity is about getting through giving and cultivating the spirit of prosperity. It is about benefiting back from freely contributing to serve the larger community. Through skillful generosity you can personally and professionally benefit and succeed through generosity and altruism.

We look forward to seeing you there and sharing ideas about how to grow and expand the field of NLP in the world.
