The NLP Millennium Project was one of the most important and inspiring gatherings of NLP Trainers and Practitioners to date. In conjunction with other NLP Institutes from around the world, NLP University coordinated and facilitated an international NLP community assembly in Santa Cruz, California--the birthplace of NLP--from July 27 to August 8, 2000. The group participating in the NLP Millennium Project numbered over 110 people (mostly NLP trainers and founders of NLP institutes) from more than 26 different countries around the world, including:

The NLP Millennium Project consisted of an interweaving of three synergistic themes or "threads" whose purpose was to create a context that supported vision, leadership and learning:

  1. New skills and developments relating to meta-leadership, co-leadership, trans-cultural ability, business coaching, win-win negotiating and high level change.
  2. Project-based learning anchored in the completion and actualization of themes from the NLP Community Leadership projects begun in 1997.
  3. Developing community affiliations, networking and infrastructures based on shared values, a common vision of the future and the latest developments in communications technology.

This innovative structure was facilitated by Robert Dilts, Judith DeLozier and a variety of well known and inspiring NLP trainers and presenters (including Robert McDonald, Michael Hall, Ian McDermott, Tim Hallbom, Suzi Smith, and many others).

One of the key goals of the NLP Millennium Project was to identify some of the core values that make NLP trainers and practitioners a global community. The identification of these values can help to solidify the bonds between people within the community (as well as attract others who also share those values to the field), and define ethical guidelines for the practice of NLP. The communication of these values to people within other professional groups and communities can help to strengthen the credibility of NLP and increase the appreciation for the intentions and motivations of NLP practitioners.
