NLP Research Project and NLP Research Methodology

The goal is to impact the NLP community and the professional community regarding viable NLP research. The purpose is to create credibility in the NLP field. The beneficial effects of this will be validation of the NLP field and inclusion into a larger professional community. An evidence of these benefits will be that we will see our research in professional journals and that professional associations will refer patients/clients to trained NLP people. The benefits can be expected when we have published research in the professional journals. We expect this to happen within 5-10 years. This idea will lead to further collaboration with professionals in other fields and more exciting research projects with a NLP methodology accepted in the professional circles. I/We want to be the locksmiths with an abundance of spare keys to share with the NLP community.

The overall time frame for reaching the goal is from 5-10 years. The chief actors include Chris Collingwood, Michael Hall, Rachel Hott, Stephen Nicholas and Peter Schutz. Kristen Shannon will be a consultant. The steps to reach the goal involve - (a) speaking with research experts in and outside of the NLP field. (b) Identifying burning questions that we want to research and communicating these via e-mail. (c) Getting clarification regarding viable NLP research methodology with specific strategies and patterns. An effective ongoing feedback will be checking in with the original members of the committee to find out about each of our progress. I/We will know that the goal has been reached when we see publications in professional journals.

The people most effected by this plan are patients, clients, educators, business professionals, psychologists, social workers and NLP practitioners, Master Practitioners and Trainers. Their needs are to have evidence that the NLP field is viable and effective. Someone might object to this plan if they feel threatened by the process in regards to their own power position. The present way of doing things is that it is safe and familiar. The status quo is comfortable. These positive gains will be preserved by pacing and educating the professional and public communities. We will work towards respecting their positive intentions. I/We would not want to implement this plan if the research methodology used is not congruent with NLP as an epistemology.

What is currently needed or missing from the plan is sufficient financial support, an understanding of the importance of research from the general NLP community and agreement on methodology. A possible solution would be to communicate via e-mail with other NLP institutes and inform them about the research dream. Speak with key NLPers who do research and support others to do so too. This can be implemented by conversations via e-mail, letters and phone calls. What else is currently needed or missing from the plan is the true desire to commit to this entire project. A possible solution would be to continue our dialogue with time frames for next steps. This can be implemented by our continuing the conversation on e-mail.
