Trainer's Training Program
This course is a system of seminars which make up a complete trainer's training program. The system of seminars is made up of a path of four seminars consisting of:
- Communication and Relational Skills for Presenters
- Communication and Relational Skills for Instructors
- Communication and Relational Skills for Trainers
- Assessment Skills and Strategies for Trainers
Each seminar in the path builds on the skills developed in the previous course and presupposes that the participants have been through all previous parts of the path.
Communication and Relational Skills for Presenters
The basic purpose of the course is to 1) provide a cognitive structure and rationale for how to design communication strategies for effective presentations and 2) to provide some skills and strategies for managing the interactive and relational aspects of the presentation context. These skills and strategies revolve around the ability to:
- Define clear goals and objectives
- Manage different learning styles
- Deal with different motivations and resistances
The main emphasis of the program will be on the application of these skills and strategies to facilitate the essential activities of a presenter. Specifically,
- Designing presentations
- Selecting or creating the appropriate material
- Making effective presentations
- Handling questions from the audience
- Managing discussion in a group
Communication and Relational Skills for Instructors
The basic purpose of the course is to 1) provide a cognitive structure and rationale for how to design communication strategies for effective lessons and courses and 2) to provide some skills and strategies for managing the interactive and relational aspects of the learning context.
The main emphasis of the program will be on the application of these skills and strategies to facilitate the essential activities of an instructor. Specifically,
- Doing basic need analysis of learners
- Creating or modifying specific lessons
- Creating or modifying simple exercises
- Conducting and supervising exercises
- Leading discussions
- Providing feedback to learners
- Addressing problems or resistances related to learning
The specific goals of the course are to provide participants with the information, tools and techniques necessary to:
- Define clear goals and objectives for lessons and courses
- Determine the needs of learners in relation to learning tasks
- Design effective instructional materials and activities
- Develop an effective strategy for giving feedback to learners
- Manage basic thinking styles in relation to learning
- Deal with different motivations and resistances in the classroom
Communication and Relational Skills for Trainers
The basic purpose of the course is to 1) provide a cognitive structure and rationale for how to design effective courses and develop the appropriate engineered material and communications strategy to support that course and 2) to provide skills and strategies for managing the interactive and relational aspects of the learning context.
The main emphasis of the program will be on the application of these skills and strategies to facilitate the essential activities of a trainer. Specifically,
- Establish a framework for the process of learning from both the learner and instructor perspectives.
- Develop strategies to:
- Create an Effective Instructional Design
- Manage the Mix of Task and Relationship in the Process of Learning
- Manage the Diversity of Learning Styles and Attitudes
- Provide Multiple Levels of Assessment and Feedback
- Define a path of training objectives.
- Plan and realize the design of a particular training path and/or seminars, possibly through the modeling of "content experts" - directly with the "models" or indirectly (in the case of "extraction" of already organized teaching material).
- Transfer and install specific skills pertaining to the subject matter.
- Anticipate and manage problems and interferences with respect to the course.
Assessment Skills and Strategies for Trainers
The basic purpose of the course is to 1) provide a structure and rationale for how to design effective assessment instruments and activities and 2) to provide some skills and strategies for managing the assessment process.
These skills and strategies revolve around the ability to:
- Define clear goals and objectives for the assessment process
- Determine the relevant skills to be assessed in relation to learning tasks
- Design effective assessment materials and activities
- Account for and manage different learning styles with respect to assessment
- Deal with beliefs, expectations and resistances relating to assessment
The main emphasis of the program will be on the application of these skills and models to facilitate the design and evaluation of assessment instruments and activities. Specifically, to:
- Establish a Framework for the Process of Assessment from Both the Learner and Instructor Perspectives.
- Establish Principles and Strategies for Designing Effective Assessment Instruments and Activities.
- Develop Strategies to Manage the Mix of Task and Relationship in the Process of Assessment.
- Develop Ways to Account for a Diversity of Learning Styles and Attitudes.
- Develop Strategies to Provide Multiple Levels of Assessment and Feedback.
